Beautiful Black Child Natural Hair Style for African American Girl with Extension Braids

I have been wearing my hair natural for decades. Nowadays my oldest daughter who is 26 has gone natural as well. There was once a time she wouldn't be caught dead going more than six weeks without a touch up but she realizes how her hair wa so thin and now it is groing in thicker and much more healthy. (A touch-up is when hair relaxer is applied to the roots to keep all the new growth straight. The relaxer is a very strong chemical used by Blacks to straighten hair.)

My youngest daughter loves her natural hair. And she doesn't want to have her hair relaxed. Occasionally, we do straighten her hair with a straightening comb. I still have the one my mom used in my hair, though it gets much less use now. I am very happy about this. So to keep her happy with her hair we are constantly trying something new. I want her to be able to experience the versatility of our type of hair without making a permanent change.

She has a friend who is also in fourth grade who has made the decision to lock her hair. It looks beautiful and is growing very long. My daughter at times says she wants her hair locked. I wore mine locked for two and a half years. But I am not sure she should make that kind of a decision right now.

This time we decided to try hair extensions. This is my first time putting her hair in extensions and both of us were so excited. So I decided to take photos of my progress. The photo below is at the very beginning of our new endeavor.

I have tried tons of products that are supposedly made specifically for ethnic, African American or Black hair. But I find that many if not most of these products rarely deliver the results promised. I like using natural products. I am using natural oils, Some of the oils in the mixture are jojoba, sesame, sweet almond and olive oil. At times, I use coconut oil. I have a friend who makes a fabulous pomade, especially formulated for our hair. Really it is shea butter with additional natural oils. Of course, I can't devulge her recipe. I love her products, find they work great and as an added bonus, they are reasonably priced.

In this photo, I start parting the hair in the design. This time it is a geometric design. Each part is made first on one side, then the other. Each braid is slightly staggered.

Now is the time when I decide if I will continue the pattern all the way to the bottom section or begin a straight pattern going to the back. I decide to continue the pattern. But I figure now is the time to do the bottom portion so the loose hair will not be in the way as I come down the braid from the top in back.

I braided the bottom portion. Trying to keep the sizes of the braids the same. I'm not a professional so this is kind of hard because I am sectioning of extension hair. I think her hair is looking pretty good here. The extension hair doesn't look too fake.

All done!! I think it came out pretty good. It took me about two hours, not too bad. I used large braids because I didn't want it to take too long. My daughter was very pleased with the results.

Hopefully, I will post more of her cute hairdos. I recently purchased some Curlformers which were quite expensive and I want to see how her hair comes out using those.
